About Hibiscus Hair

Kia ora, halo olgeta!

We're Hibiscus Hair - a family-run hair and self-care brand created with our communities in mind 🌺

What started as a creative little lockdown project back in 2020 quickly became something much bigger.

Hibiscus Hair was originally started by younger sister Claire Maree, who began sewing and selling handmade scrunchies while still in high school. After lockdown, we started bringing them along to local Waikato markets, where people were instantly drawn to the fun prints, unique designs, and the love behind them.

Before long, Hibiscus Hair started growing.

We added claw clips, hair accessories, and eventually satin sleep bonnets. The bonnets quickly became one of our favourite things 🧡

Then life got busy.

Markets became harder to keep up with, school and work happened, and it was no longer sustainable to have a stand.

So Hibiscus Hair was put on pause.

But Rosalie never stopped using the bonnets.

They became part of her everyday routine, and over time, she noticed huge changes in her hair health, especially while learning how to care for her natural curls as someone with mixed hair.

Less frizz.
Less breakage.
Healthier curls.
Easier mornings.

But more than that, there was something bigger happening too.

Wearing her natural hair started feeling less stressful and more empowering. More confidence. More pride. More joy in wearing the curls she was born with 😍

That journey became a huge part of why Hibiscus Hair came back.

Today, Hibiscus Hair is still very much a whānau affair - with family, culture, creativity, and community at the heart of everything we do.

We create products inspired by our people, our routines, and the things we wish we had more of growing up.

From satin sleep bonnets to self-care essentials, we want Hibiscus Hair to feel like a bit of aroha at the end of a long day.

Tangkiu tumas for being here while we grow. This is only the beginning.

Luv tumas,
The Hibiscus Hair whānau
